Biden Withdraws And I’m Not Worried (Much)

So… Biden is officially out of the race.

I was worried at first, but I’m not sure that it’s necessarily a bad thing, let alone a devastating thing.

He endorsed Kamala Harris to take his place, which was really the only good choice.

Now, while, yes, the rapid racists and misogynists are going to vote against her, most of those people were firmly in trump’s camp anyway, as he loudly shares their values.

Also, while there has been some murmuring against her recently, the right-wing hate machine won’t really have time to gin up a huge campaign against her. Remember, they attacked Hillary non-stop for 30 years before barely eking out a victory against her on technicalities.

There are also people on the left who disliked Biden enough that they would have stayed home, or voted for a third-party candidate, instead of him who will now support Harris instead.

The biggest impediment will be if she can’t get onto the ballot in every state. The right will be busily filing lawsuits to avoid changing ballots, and then doing everything they can to delay those lawsuits long enough that they can’t be updated before the election.

There’s still a chance — a fairly good chance if the left can unite behind her — that at this time next year, we’ll be months into President Harris’ first term, rather than into the end of democracy and the fascist oligarchy/theocracy of Project 2025.

Let us hope. (And, also, act.)
